The church is of the Victorian period 1855]and has a rather splendid East Window which, alas, is partially obscured by the overhead projector screen riveted to the chancel wall. But perhaps appearances are the least important part of St John's, an Anglican Evangelical church with informal 'charismatic worship'. [this has to be placed in quotation marks as the congregatioon seem to be learning that they should raise hands and clap along with the praise songs from Mark, their Vicar] The people share communion every two weeks, and a specific healing ministry is offered at the altar once a month. Theology errs towards a fundamentalist bias and 'Praise Songs' have displaced hymns and can be rather repetitive in emphasising Jesus' matiness. Jesus is more friend than Lord in this church.

However, what one notices about St John's when visiting on a weekday morning or the 10:30am Sunday Service is that this is a church built out of people rather than stones and, as such, the warm welcome is more in evidence than the aesthetics of a 'heritage' church. St John's also ministers to the homeless and is strong on outreach to the disadvantaged.

For those who prefer a more traditional service 8.30am offers a liturgical service of Holy Communion, spoken not sung.

Evening service is 'experimental' according to the Church website and blatantly caters for the yoof market.

    Eulipious
